We’ve all heard the whole “high converting copy” catchphrase on the internet somewhere, am I right? But what is conversion copywriting and what does it do? Read on and let’s break down what sets “conversion copy” apart from the rest.

What is Conversion Copywriting?

Conversion copy is compelling and persuasive copy that is created with the goal of converting readers to buyers. Whether you’re trying to get people to sign up for a newsletter or waitlist, invest in a service, purchase a product, or even just click a link - conversion copy is meant to engage and motivate readers to take a specific action. 

What goes into conversion copy? Great copywriting skills, for one, but there’s more to it than that. A conversion copywriter uses tools like storytelling, consumer psychology, emotional connection, and persuasion techniques. This involves market, consumer, and competitor research, as well as a detailed messaging strategy.

Now that we’ve talked about what conversion copywriting IS, let’s talk about what it’s NOT.

One of my favorite examples of copy that’s not built around conversion is storytelling copy! While storytelling copy is still 100% capable of converting, its main goal is to spark connection and conversation.

Yet another example of copy that doesn’t center on conversion is SEO copy. Just like storytelling copy, SEO copy is fully capable of converting, but its main purpose is using keywords to optimize a piece of content for search engines to discover and rank it.

So, back to conversion copy- how does one go about writing it? There are quite a few factors that go into this, like your brand voice and messaging, language style, and also the kind of marketing strategies you like to use. Here are a few things you can do to create compelling copy:

  • Offer value and establish yourself as the authority in your niche or industry
  • Be persuasive (show them you know their problem and that you have a solution)
  • Create a connection through storytelling or emotion
  • Do your consumer research and know what makes them tick 

Bottom line: conversion copy is essential when it comes to booking out the offers you’ve poured your time and essence into.
